A Magical Escape: Our Disney Cruise Line Experience with a Preschooler and a Baby

Planning a Disney vacation with young kids can feel overwhelming—but what if I told you there’s a way to enjoy all the Disney magic while getting some well-deserved R&R?
For my daughter’s 4th birthday, we set sail on a Disney Cruise Line adventure—and brought along our 7-month-old baby. We cruised out of Port Canaveral, visited Nassau and Disney’s private island—Castaway Cay—and made magical memories every step of the way.
Spoiler alert: it was the most relaxing Disney trip we’ve ever taken.

Set sail on a Disney Cruise and swap overwhelm for wonder—where Nassau sparkles, Castaway Cay feels like a dream, and magical memories unfold at every turn.

All Aboard the Magic

From the moment we stepped onto the ship and our family name was announced (yes, that’s a thing!), we were immersed in the Disney experience—without the hustle and bustle of the parks. Our stateroom was spacious enough for the four of us, and the level of service was next-level (as you’d expect from Disney).

Port Adventures: Nassau & Castaway Cay

In Nassau, we booked a Disney excursion to Atlantis, which made things easy and seamless with little ones in tow. The water park and aquarium were a hit with our daughter—and the convenience of transportation and built-in Disney support made it stress-free.

But the real standout? Castaway Cay. This private island is a dream for families, with clear water, soft sand, and plenty of shady spots. There’s even a kids’ club on the island, so grown-ups can sneak away to the serene adults-only beach for some rare quiet time. Everything you need—lunch, towels, strollers, entertainment—is already there. It’s effortless.

Dining Highlights—Including a Grown-Up Night Out

The food on board was fantastic. We loved the rotating dining concept (a different themed restaurant each night), and the birthday girl was made to feel extra special. She especially loved her dinner at Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure, where she got to visit with her favorite princesses, Anna and Elsa.

But the fun wasn’t just for the kids! One night, we treated ourselves to a reservation at Palo, the adults-only fine dining restaurant—and it was phenomenal. Meanwhile, our little ones were happily cared for at the Oceaneer Club and the onboard nursery, giving us the rare chance to enjoy a quiet dinner and soak in the nightlife.

Kid Magic Everywhere

Our daughter was obsessed with the kids’ club—to the point where she asked when she could go back instead of wanting to leave. The counselors were amazing, and the activities were nonstop fun.

For our baby, the nursery was a lifesaver. It gave us time to recharge and enjoy a cocktail or two, and we felt completely comfortable leaving her in the care of the warm, professional staff.

We also loved the ease of meeting characters and princesses onboard. No long lines, no rushing around—just sweet, personal moments and plenty of photo ops. And Pirate Night? A family favorite! With themed dining, deck parties, and fireworks at sea, it was a night we’ll never forget.

Why We’d Do It Again (And You Should Too)

This cruise gave us everything we love about Disney—beloved characters, thoughtful details, and magical moments—but in a way that felt easier, slower, and more relaxing. Compared to the parks, there was far less planning, more flexibility, and space to actually unwind. With activities for every age and something new around every corner, it truly felt like a vacation for everyone.
